Mission of Think Tank Research
The Student-Faculty Interdisciplinary Research Think Tank at Daemen College works to support applied joint faculty-student research to benefit local communities. The Think Tank aims to promote a deeper commitment by students to research and to the enhancement of local, national, and global well-being.
Established in the fall of 2002 as a project of The Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement at Daemen College, the goals of the Think Tank Program are to:
- Support research into a broad range of issues that fall under the general concepts of sustainable communities, civic engagement, and historical and cultural preservation;
- Support research teams with faculty and students working together;
- Publish applied research findings in an online occasional paper series and periodically in print; and
- Enhance curriculum and institutional developments centering on the theme of sustainable communities and civic engagement. Special emphasis is placed on curriculum projects that affect local communities, schools, economic development, environmental preservation or restoration, and cultural preservation.
The Research Think Tank was made possible through support from the Office of Sustainable Development and Intergovernmental Affairs of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and The John R. Oishei Foundation of Buffalo, New York.
Daemen College is dedicated to providing students with the tools to for life long learning, for improving the quality of life locally, nationally, and globally, and for stimulating critical thinking and creative problem solving.
