Daemen College : Admissions : Meet our Students : Chelsea Foss
Chelsea Foss
Physical Therapy
Chelsea Foss had two important criteria to narrow down her college search. The school had to be in the Northeastern United States, and it had to have a physical therapy program. The Holden, Maine native aspired to become a practicing physical therapist with a specialization in pediatric care, and she chose Daemen College to help her reach her professional goals.
Why did you choose Daemen, and what had the biggest impact on your decision?
I was only looking at schools in the Northeast with physical therapy programs. Daemen’s physical therapy program is only 6 years for a combined bachelors/doctorate degree, and that was one of the main reasons I chose the school. The scholarships offered also aided in my decision to go to Daemen, since it was much more affordable than other schools I was looking at. My visit to campus was the piece that “sealed the deal.” Even on my first tour of the campus, I felt completely comfortable and safe in the college atmosphere that Daemen provides to its students.
What was the biggest difference between college and high school?
College entails more class content in less time than in high school. College also allows you much more freedom, from the classes you take to the activities that you participate in.
What do you think about the Daemen faculty, staff, and advisors?
The professors that I have encountered here at Daemen are focused on providing an all-around education to their students. The physical therapy faculty are focused on providing an education to students to help them succeed in their profession and ultimately to pass the boards upon graduating. The staff is friendly and helpful, and no one seems to leave any of my questions unanswered. My advisors have always been available and helpful when I needed to sign up for classes or look into my professional development.
Have you had any internships or co-op experience?
I have completed one clinical internship in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy.
What do you like best about Daemen?
I like having the opportunity to get to know classmates, professors, and co-workers here on campus due to the small campus and small class sizes. It is nice to have such a close-knit community here since I am so far from home.
What are your goals after graduation?
To be a working physical therapist within the community.
What would you tell someone who was considering Daemen as their future school?
If you are looking for a college within a safe community with many opportunities in different majors, small class sizes, and friendly, helpful professors, staff, and students, then I believe Daemen is a great fit.
