Daemen College : Admissions : Meet our Students : Katelyn - Physical Therapy
Katelyn - Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy
A student's ultimate goal is success in their career, studies and in their life in general. Daemen prepares students through a diverse curriculum, but most importantly employs faculty that will invest in their students as much as it takes for the students to best prepare them so they can achieve their goal of success.
Why did you choose you Daemen?
I chose Daemen for the small class sizes, small campus, and because I love how I can complete both my undergraduate and graduate studies all at one school.
Why did you choose your major?
I chose Physical Therapy because I always wanted to be a part of the medical field. I looked into many different areas in the field and when I found PT, I fell in love with it.
Describe your academic experience at Daemen.
My last two semesters here at Daemen were great. I learned so much that will not only help to succeed in my career, but also in life. I knew that if I ever needed help with any of my work, my professors were there to help me work through it to get the grades I needed. They are more than willing to help their students and want to see them succeed in the classroom, and for after they graduate from Daemen.
What impact have the faculty, staff and advisors at Daemen had on you?
The faculty and staff at Daemen are great, as I said before they want to see you succeed and will do whatever it is so their students do just that. My advisor is great. She is always there to explain to me all aspects of my major, help me plan and register for classes and answer any other odd questions I may have (which I have many).
Do you live on campus? What has been your experience?
I love living on campus. The dorms are located right in the middle of the campus, so you are so close to everything. I loved the fact that I would have my own bathroom in the Freshman dorms, rather than walking down a hall to a bathroom shared by the entire floor. The lounges on every floor are great places to hang out with the people on your floor and really get to know each other. By living on campus, I feel that I made so many great friendships that I know will last through the years.
Have you had any internship, study abroad, service learning or academic experience (ex. Academic Festival, Research Think Tank, etc.) that you can tell us about?
Right now I am fulfilling my service learning credit by being a peer mentor. This means that I sit in on the IND 101 classes and be the bridge that links the new incoming Freshman to Daemen College. I am there to answer any questions they have anything from classes, to personal problems. So far I love being a peer mentor, and being a reliable source for my class to go to.
What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to eventually be a physical therapist specializing in the treatment of dancers. I have been a dancer ever since I was three years old, and I couldn't imagine that major part of my life just ending one day. So what could be better than having my dream job combined with my favorite activity? I have also seen many of my fellow dancers injure themselves and want nothing more to be back on that stage, and I would love nothing more than to be a part of helping them get back up there.
What clubs or organizations have you been apart of here at Daemen?
I am a part of the newly formed American Red Cross Club that started in the spring semester last year.
Favorite campus activities:
I love going to the different programs that the RA's put on. By going to these programs, I developed great relationships with many of the RA's in Canavan Hall. They are fun and creative, and usually involve snacks, which everyone loves.
Favorite campus hangout:
The Bridge in the RIC. It's the perfect place to study, or just hang out.
