Career Services and Global Programs teamed up for International Week which was November 18-22 and held a Global Experience Writing contest. Contest winners were announced at the Chinese Culture Club event held in Alumni Lounge on Friday, November 22, 2013. President Gary A. Olson and Dr. Michael Brogan were on hand to greet the attendees of the event. Ye Wang, student, is President of the club and moderators are Dr. Maureen Millane and Dr. Blake Thurman.
For the contest, students were asked to describe and then submit, in 500 characters or less, about any global experience they have participated in, that which included travel, working with others from diverse cultural backgrounds, and/or study abroad, and, if speaking to a potential employer, graduate school admissions counselor, or a fellow student, how they would describe their global experiences? Global experience writing contest grand prize winner, Thomas Wilkie, submitted the following written piece:
"My time studying abroad in Spain was one of the most challenging yet rewarding learning experiences of my life. I was able to overcome my uncertainties about my language skills and gain confidence in my abilities to live in a culture different from my own. I had opportunities to teach English and to intern with an employment agency which provided a unique insight into a country with extremely high unemployment and deepened my understanding of the Spanish culture."
Congratulations to the following First Prize winners:Scott EvansDaisy Doherty
