The Peer Mentor Program

What are Peer Mentors?

The Peer Mentor program at Daemen College places an experienced student in each section of the freshmen seminar, IND 101.  Peer Mentors are available to freshmen students both in and out of class for support during the transition to college.

Peer Mentors provide assistance:

  • understanding IND 101 course expectations
  • getting involved in campus activities and organizations
  • utilizing campus resources
  • strengthening academic success skills
  • general college transition issues

Interested in being a Peer Mentor?

The Peer Mentor program is both a credited course (IND 203 & 205) and an on-campus Service Learning experience.  Peer Mentors receive 3 credits, Civic Responsibility competency, and up to 60 hours of Service Learning for their participation in the program.

Requirements:

There are a limited number of spaces available in the program, and acceptance is competitive. 

Potential Peer Mentors must:

  • Be in good academic standing
  • Have received a ‘B’ or higher in IND 101
  • Have an energetic, outgoing personality and enjoy helping people
  • Be available for mandatory training at the end of the summer
