Navigating the Internship Fair

Whether your coursework requires an internship or you are just gathering information on local employers, it pays to prepare ahead of time.  This Internship Fair is the perfect opportunity to network with local employers who are here to see you!
Follow these simple steps to make the most out of this networking event.

Research the organizations

Take note of the companies that interest you or have a link to your major.  Construct a few questions to ask the representatives.   A complete list of registered employers can be found on the Co-op & Career Development web site: http://www.daemen.edu/offices/career/events/Pages/InternshipFair2009.aspx

Update your resume:  Employers will take note of students who come prepared.  Have your resume critiqued by one of the career staff professionals in Co-op & Career Development.  Don’t have a resume yet?  Here’s a sample booklet to get you started!

Practice your elevator speech

Describe who you are, (name and major), the type of internship you are seeking, and how you can help their organization!  Be friendly and enthusiastic- let them know you are willing to lend a hand while learning from them!

Dress to impress

You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.  Consider the Internship Fair a test drive for an upcoming interview -a suit is not necessary, but try to look professional- it will pay off!

Gather Information

Talk to as many representatives as possible.  This is an outstanding chance to learn about local employers and discuss present and future opportunities!  It’s never too early to plan your internship experience!

Say thank you

Express an interest in further communication. Ask for business cards and company brochures.  Thank the representatives for taking the time to meet you!
