MILITARY SCIENCE
Military Science (Army ROTC)
Program
(Cross-enrollment
at Canisius College)
Essential Courses:
The Military
Science program is available to Daemen students as part of the cross
registration program. The military science courses are offered by and at Canisius College. The program generally requires four years
for completion: a two-year Basic Course (2-6 credit hours per year) for which
NO military obligation is incurred, and a two-year Advanced
Course. The Basic Course is designed to provide students with
fundamental leadership education. It is appropriate for all students, whether
or not they are interested in an Army officer commission. The Advanced Course
is a two-year officer education program (12 credit hours per year) for which
there is a military service obligation. Entry into the Advanced Course requires
successful completion of the Basic Course, or MLS 210, or placement credit
awarded as a result of completion of military service.
In addition
to the military science courses, students are required to complete one
one-semester course in each of the following areas: written communication;
computer literacy; military history. Advisement and course selection for
completion of the program is completed by the faculty of the Military Science
(Army ROTC) program at Canisius.
Pertinent Additional
Information:
Daemen
College full time matriculated students may take ROTC courses via the
cross-registration agreement with the Western New York Consortium of Colleges.
Under this agreement full-time matriculating students may take one
cross-registered course of their full-time load (12-17 credits = full time)
each semester without additional charge. Should a student exceed the
17-credit-hour maximum, and then the usual per credit hour Daemen tuition
charges will be assessed.
While ROTC
courses may not be taken for credit in the core, they are acceptable as Free
Electives outside the core provided that such credits are available in the
student’s academic program. ROTC courses may also be completed as credits over
and above degree requirements. No tuition charge will be assessed for ROTC
courses for which no credit is applicable to the degree.
