Daemen is located in a suburb, Amherst, in Western New York. The college borders Buffalo, the second largest city in New York State. Amherst is a safe community with area shopping, outdoor activities, and cultural events. The airport is only 16 kilometers from Daemen and we are a one-hour flight to NYC. We are 34 km to Niagara Falls and approximately 160 km to Toronto Canada. There are several other colleges in the area, which creates a vibrant atmosphere to study and practice English. Students are exposed to all that American culture has to offer.
Program and Level
Classes are offered in 15 week sessions (8 weeks in Summer June – August). There are 2 fifteen week sessions and 1 eight week session offered each year. Students enroll in the number of sessions necessary to achieve their desired level of English proficiency. There are four levels of English offered ( advanced beginners, low intermediate, and high intermediate/advanced). We also offer an academic preparation program (Pathways) for students who want to enter an American university or Daemen College at the undergraduate or graduate level. It takes one full semester (15 weeks) for students to complete one level. The academic preparation program is available to students with TOFEL IBT 55 or above (5.5 IELTS).
Daemen College offers conditional admission to international undergraduate and graduate applicants who meet the academic requirements but whose TOEFL or IELTS score does not meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement (79 ibt , 6.5 IELTs, 550 PB TOEFL). Students who are conditionally admitted to Daemen must successfully complete the highest English level in Daemen’s Intensive English Language Program to be admitted to the college.
TOEFL Waiver and Daemen College Admissions
Students who complete the IELP advanced level with a grade of A or B may enter an undergraduate or graduate program without TOEFL scores (unless the degree program has a special or higher requirement).
A Certificate of Completion is awarded to students who have successfully completed their courses.
IELP has a full-time student advisor to help students with immigration advising, orientation, and admission to one of Daemen’s degree programs.
The average class size at IELP is 8-12 students.
The IELP has housing that allows international students to interact with Americans on our campus. There is housing in residence halls and nearby apartments that students can rent.
Student Activities and Social Events
Through our Global Programs Office, IELP students experience a full range of program-sponsored trips and activities to experience American culture, Western New York and Daemen. Activities include field trips to the Niagara Falls, museums, picnics, professional sporting events, conversation clubs and many more. IELP students have access to all the resources on campus such as computer lab, library, sport facilities, and student clubs and activities.
