Masters of Science Degree in Education - Weekend Masters Program

What Makes It Great

  • As a Daemen education major, you will get field experience in actual classrooms starting your freshman year-as opposed to junior year in many other programs-giving you more confidence with students and preparation for your career.
  • Small class sizes help facilitate enhanced interaction with faculty members dedicated to teaching excellence and providing personal attention to each student.
  • This hands-on approach, combined with small classes and exceptional instruction, has led our combined pass rates on the annual New York State Teacher Certification Examinations to consistently exceed 90%.

Degree Programs

Canadian and U.S. students welcome!

  • Daemen’s Weekend Masters in Education Program is designed for busy professionals – it’s a great opportunity for people who have a college degree and would like to go back to school for their teaching certification.
  • The weekend format is designed for students who want to earn a Masters Degree in Education and become certified teachers while taking classes on Friday evenings and Saturdays.
  • To accommodate those with current professional obligations, courses for this program are offered on Daemen College campus throughout the year, including summers, on Friday evenings and Saturdays during the day.
  • Students move through the program in cohorts and complete the courses in one calendar year, followed by 15 weeks of student teaching. The next cohort begins in September, 2008.
  • After meeting all requirements, students are eligible for teaching certification in New York State.

Initial/Professional Graduate Programs - These programs are for individuals seeking certification from the State of New York who do not possess a teaching credential. The student must possess a bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in an acceptable liberal arts concentration and demonstrate a major area of study. Once the master’s program is completed, the student will apply to New York State for initial certification and complete all necessary New York State Education Department requirements for initial certification (pass the New York State Teacher Certification Examination (NYSTCE): Liberal Arts and Science Test (LAST), Assessment of Teaching Skills-Written (ATS-W), and Content Specialty Test (CTS); complete fingerprinting process, Project SAVE, and Child Abuse Seminar). For U.S. students only, in order to receive Professional Certification, the candidate must then complete two years of full-time teaching experience and pass the appropriate Content Specialty Tests in order to obtain professional certification from New York.
