    What Makes It Great

    A History & Government degree from Daemen prepares you to be an active citizen in your community and beyond.The unique combined department offers opportunities to study both political science and history.

    The Department places a strong focus on the development of critical thinking, research and writing skills needed to succeed in graduate studies and in the workplace.

    Faculty members are dedicated to teaching excellence. In addition to the typical coverage of general topics in history and government, faculty expertise and research interests include the following: women’s history, urban and rural issues in the U.S., modern history of the Middle East and South America, history of Russia and Eastern Europe, ancient history, constitutional law and the U.S. Supreme Court, the

    U.S.electoral process,U.S.health care policy,Asian politics,and the politics of globalization.

    Key Features
    • Small class sizes (15:1 student/teacher ratio) help facilitate enhanced interaction and provide personal attention to each student.
    • Majors are available in History and Government,Adolescent Education/Social Studies, Political Science, and Environmental Studies.
    • Additional opportunities are available to explore areas of interest through minors in History, Political Science, Criminal Justice, European Studies, Pre-Law,Women’s Studies and Black Studies.
    • Hands-on activities like the annual Moot Court Experience, Internships, and Cooperative Learning Experiences give you the chance to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world experiences.
    • Special Pre-Law advisors are also available to guide students who wish to attend law school after graduation.
    • Our active History and Government Club and Pre-Law Association offer opportunities to participate in student-centered activities related to historical and legal issues.
    • Capstone Senior Thesis requirement.
