Essential Courses:

 

Successful completion of one foreign language through the intermediate level.

REL 221        Introduction to New Testament

  or REL 322             The Gospels

REL 308        The Religious and Spiritual Traditions of the World

REL 443        Proseminar

 

24 elective hours in religious studies

 

15 additional credit hours in literature, including at least three credit hours in American Literature. Selection of courses is to be determined jointly by the student and the student's faculty advisor. Students can select LIT 443: Senior Seminar if they choose to write a thesis (optional).

 

Admission to Upper Division:

 

1.         An overall quality point average of 2.0 or better.

2.         A quality point average of 2.0 or better in religious studies.

3.         Students who do not meet the above criteria may petition the department for an exception to be made when circumstances warrant it.

 

Minors:

 

Philosophy:

 

PHI 110 and three additional courses (nine credit hours) in philosophy with departmental advisement. At least three credit hours must be in a PHI course with the core competency Moral and Ethical Discernment.

 

Philosophy and Religious Studies:

 

REL 109 or PHI 110 or REL 105 and three additional courses (nine credit hours) in philosophy and/or religion with departmental advisement. At least three credit hours must be in a PHI or REL or department-sponsored IND course with the core competency Moral and Ethical Discernment.

 

Religion:

 

REL 109 or REL 105, REL 308, and two additional courses (six credit hours) in religious studies with departmental advisement. At least three credit hours must be in a REL course with the primary competency Moral and Ethical Discernment.
