GraduateSchool Track Curriculum:

Students preparing for graduate school in the traditional sciences, medicine or dentistry substitute CHE 301 and 302 Organic Chemistry I & II Lecture & Lab for BCH 317 (lecture). Consideration may also be given to MTH 144 Calculus and Analytic Geometry I and substitution of PHY 151 & 152 General Physics I & II for PHY 101 & 102.

PLEASE NOTE:  All students entering Daemen College intending to pursue studies leading to a Physical Therapy degree matriculate into the Professional DPT Physical Therapy curriculum and abide by the associated admissions requirements described here. Students will complete requirements for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Science by the end of their fourth academic year (first year professional phase). At the end of the sixth academic year (third year professional phase) students will graduate with the Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree.

Admission Requirements:

• High school science: three years including chemistry

• High school math: three years including trigonometry recommended

Admission to Professional Program:

Students applying for admittance into the professional program must complete the requirements stipulated below by the final day of summer session classes.

Coursework Grade/QPA Requirements:

  1. All students must possess a cumulative  quality point average (QPA) of 2.80 at the end of the pre-professional coursework,  with a letter grade of C or better in CMP 101 &  315; PSY 103; MTH 134; and PT 101, PT 201, and PT 312.
  2. All students must possess a 2.80 QPA and earn a letter grade of C or better in the  science courses specified here:  BIO 109 (lecture and lab), BIO 110 (lecture and lab), BIO 330 (lecture and lab), BIO 340 (lecture and lab), CHE 110 (lecture and lab), CHE 111 (lecture and lab), BCH 317  (lecture); PHY 101 (lecture and lab), PHY  102 (lecture and lab);

Residency Requirements:

  1. A minimum number of seats are set aside for transfer students in each professional class.
  2. Selection process for transfer student  admission to the professional program is based on space availability, level of  performance in meeting the science coursework requirements (grades/QPA) and number of credits completed at Daemen College.
  3. All students must have satisfactorily completed the liberal arts core  requirements including all pre-professional coursework prior to entrance  into the professional program.
  4. All students entering Daemen College beginning in 2001 must have completed the requirements for a baccalaureate degree by the end of the first year of the professional  program.
  5. Students must earn a 2.80 QPA in the  pre-professional science courses taken  at Daemen College.

Field work/References:

  1. Documentation of completion of at least 120 hours of physical therapy clinical exposure through one of the following prior to application to the professional phase will be required of all candidates (minimum of 40 hours must be performed in an in-patient or extended care facility):

• Volunteer work in a physical therapy department.

• Co-operative education experience in a physical therapy department.

• Employment in a physical therapy department.

  1. Two character references (one must be from a physical therapist).
  2. A biographical sketch.

PLEASE NOTE: Daemen College reserves the right to make changes to the Physical Therapy curriculum, professional entrance criteria, and/or professional program and graduation requirements. Detailed information on minimum grade requirements and other requirements for good academic standing in the professional program is available from the physical therapy department. All enrolled students must meet all requirements if changed or amended by Daemen College.

Direct Entry Student Admissions Requirements:

Students wishing to enter directly into the Professional Curriculum must have an earned baccalaureate degree with minimum overall and science QPAs of 2.8. Students must have satisfactorily (grade of 'C' or better) completed the coursework listed below:

8 credits Biology (with lab)

8 credits Chemistry (with lab)

3 credits Bio-organic Chemistry lecture (Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry may be substituted)

8 credits Physics (with lab)

8 credits Anatomy/Physiology (with lab)    

3 credits Pre-Calculus (minimum requirement)

3 credits Psychology

*  may be satisfied through demonstrated proficiency, CLLE or other documentation of previous equivalent coursework + 200 level or higher English composition including medical terminology and documentation formats.
