Welcome to Daemen College

Since our founding more than 50 years ago, we have been committed to preparing our students for active participation in a changing world. As we enter the new millennium, we find that change has become one of the constants in our lives. We believe there is no better preparation for the demands of the future than a liberal arts education. Daemen College, grounded in a tradition of academic excellence, is committed to the personal and intellectual development of its students, and aims to develop men and women prepared to assume roles of responsibility in life. While offering courses for career preparedness and personal development, the College seeks to instill a love for knowledge. Through an academic atmosphere that leads to open inquiry and debate, we encourage our students to think broadly and creatively, and to develop an intellectual curiosity that extends beyond the college years.

A 15:1 student-faculty ratio enables us to provide individualized attention to each of our students, enhancing each student's ability to acquire and synthesize knowledge in their chosen field of study. Daemen students are taught by an outstanding faculty, 85 percent of whom hold a Ph.D, or the terminal degree in their field. Our instructors are from institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, the University of Notre Dame, the University of California at Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, and Yale University School of Medicine. In addition, several of our faculty members have been recipients of Fulbright Awards.

Daemen College also believes education must go beyond personal and career concerns. In this spirit, Daemen students are exposed to a set of values encouraging them to contribute to the development of the common good, one of the principles on which this College was founded. More than 50 percent of our students choose to participate in the Daemen Service Learning Program, which provides a wide range of opportunities for interaction with local agencies, service organizations, and charitable causes. The Daemen College Service Learning Program has been selected by the National Points of Light Foundation for outstanding service and commitment. It is an award which reflects the time, energy, and effort Daemen students put into helping their community, learning that, as individuals, they can and do make a difference.

Daemen is located on a beautiful 39-acre suburban campus in Amherst, New York, a community rated again this year by Money Magazine as the safest mid-sized city in America. This location, in the Buffalo metropolitan region, enables students of the College to have ready access to world-class cultural attractions, first-rate theatre, professional sports, and outstanding restaurants and shopping. Additionally, Toronto, Canada, a booming and dynamic metropolitan region, is within easy driving distance of the Daemen campus.

I invite you to browse our web site. Take a virtual tour of the campus. You'll find we offer more than 30 undergraduate degree programs, along with six graduate courses of study. We offer a creative balance between programs providing career preparation and the liberal arts. It's an atmosphere which enables our students to achieve their personal and professional goals, to the betterment of themselves, their workplaces, and their communities. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Dr. Martin J. Anisman
