At Daemen College learning is more than just reading
books and writing papers! Connecting real-world experience to what’s
going on inside the classroom can be one of the most effective and
life changing learning experiences a student will ever have.
Get Out of the Classroom
Typically, each year, over 50% of students enrolled at the College
participate in various service activities. Students also fulfill
a 3-credit hour Core Curriculum Service Learning requirement. Activities
include working with residents of nursing homes, hospitals and clinics;
tutoring children, mentoring in city schools, and service activities
in various cities during spring break.
Connect with Others
The Service Learning program at Daemen educates students through
a variety of opportunities in the local community as well as nationally.
Students from every field of study and class level participate as
individuals or groups in short-term and long-term projects or assignments
that benefit people in need.
Real Knowledge
Through integrated community service, active learning, and group
processing of one’s experiences, students are able to enhance
their critical thinking skills and form values that will carry them
throughout their lives. Service Learning also creates powerful opportunities
for students to apply classroom learning in real world contexts.
This creates a more integrated and rich understanding of course
material and objectives.
