Sean Hellingman

Where are you from?
Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada

What is your major?

Why did you choose Daemen?
Daemen offered me an academic scholarship along with an athletic scholarship.  The small class sizes were a huge factor, I didn’t want to be stuck in a large class and be unable to get help.  Also, my mom grew up in Ontario so I have a lot of family out this way.

What are the academics like on campus?
Academics at Daemen are important, I feel like the academic side of the university experience is taken very seriously here at Daemen.

What are your hobbies?
I play for the soccer team, so that takes up a lot of my time.  I also like to go play pick up hockey when I can or hang out with my friends.

What is your favorite thing about Daemen College?
I like the size of Daemen; I am not the kind of person that would be successful at an extremely large University.

What department on campus has been extremely helpful to you during your time at Daemen?
The international office has been very helpful, their door is always open.  My advisor (Dr. Hibschweiler) has been very helpful during my time here.

How have you been involved on campus? What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
Well, I am on the soccer team. I am also the treasurer of the Math club.  I have helped the club put on a campus wide poker tournament and I have also helped put on a Zumba event among other things.

What is your favorite thing about Buffalo, NY?
I like that it is different, I decided to go to university to experience a different place and Buffalo has really fulfilled that for me.  I also like how cheap the hockey tickets are here.

What has your experience at Daemen College been like?
It has been a learning experience.  I have had some ups and downs for sure, but I have met some fantastic people, done some cool things, and I will have a good degree to show for it all.

What is the Daemen College Campus like?
It is small and easy to navigate.

"I think one of the most crucial aspects of the Daemen curriculum is the required internship. I was an accounting intern for both a private health care company and a certified public accounting firm. I was able to apply lessons learned in the classroom to real business situations. When my internships were over, each company offered me a full-time position."
