Christy Kassler

Christy Kassler

English/History

President of the English Club, editor of the school newspaper, editor of a literary magazine, Vice President of the History Club – to say Christy Kassler is driven to succeed is a massive understatement. She came to Daemen looking for an academic challenge, and once she found it, she set her sights higher. Graduate school, a Ph.D., inspiring future generations of students to follow in her lofty footsteps – Kassler’s got them all on her to-do list.

Would you recommend the English program to others?

Absolutely! The English program at Daemen is undoubtedly focused on student success within the program and concentrates on the specific needs and strengths of those within the major. This is a great necessity because when one focuses on becoming a better writer, you need specialized attention!

Do you have any advice for prospective students entering your program?

Yes, I would suggest that they get involved on campus beyond just the scope of a few clubs. As the President of the English Club, I had great experiences, but not until I became more active in the Daemen community did I realize how important it is to participate in events and organizations.

Why did you choose Daemen?

The reason I chose Daemen was because I needed a small school to thrive but also wanted to be challenged academically. Therefore, Daemen was the perfect fit!

What are your professional goals?

I would like to continue my career in higher education by attending graduate school and possibly even attaining my Ph.D. in Literature.

Are you hoping to be an English professor someday? What areas of literature are of particular interest to you?

Yes, I am hoping to be an English professor someday and hopefully will specialize in British Literature. I am especially interested in Romanticism; the poetry of Keats, Byron, and Shelley are some of my favorite things to read.

What are some of your favorite books?

My favorite books are usually fantasy-related; my favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien.

Are you involved in any clubs on campus?

I am the President of the English Club, the Vice President of the History Club, the Editor of the school newspaper The Insight, and also the Editor of the school literary magazine The Loom. All of these clubs and activities have helped me be more active in the Daemen community and helped me get organized to the point where I aspire to do great things, both on campus and off.

What are some of the goals of English Club? What activities does the club have planned this year?

The goals of the English club are to promote awareness of literary movements and also to bring people together who love reading and writing both personally and academically. For next semester, I am hoping to sponsor fun activities on campus, like a Poetry slam featuring the club.

How you do balance your academics with all of your extracurricular activities?

I just make sure to stay organized and when it gets to be too much, I know to unburden myself by asking for assistance.

What will be your lasting memory of Daemen?

The long-lasting influence and mentorship of the faculty and staff will always impact my life, as will the memory of belonging to a campus full of wonderful students with whom I have made friendships.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? What do you hope to have accomplished?

In ten years I hope to have accomplished great things within the community through my efforts at educating others. I hope to be involved in an academic setting to stimulate both my own intellect and that of others.
