Katie - Marketing
Why did you choose Daemen College?
Like many, I chose Daemen College for their small class sizes and personalized attention from faculty and professors. Prior to college, I attended a small, close-knit high school, and I was not ready to let that bond go. Because of this, I chose to continue my studies at a place where these bonds could also be made.
Why did you choose your present major?
I was originally a Sport Management major, and decided to change my focus after my sophomore year. I changed my Business concentration to Marketing, which allows me to apply my critical thinking and creativity to a new realm of opportunity. By switching to Marketing, I will still have the ability to pursue my goals of working in sports, while also opening doors to opportunities that stretch beyond this concentration.
Please describe your academic experience at Daemen College.
At Daemen, the Business Department is comprised of a close-knit group of faculty and students. I have shared the majority of my classes with the same group of students, allowing for learning and interaction like no other. When you know the majority of students in your class, it makes everyone feel comfortable and confident in sharing opinions and ideas in the classroom, making for a more successful academic experience.
Please describe the impact Daemen faculty, staff and advisors have had on you.
I owe my success at Daemen to the faculty and professors. Without my advisors guiding the way, including Academic Advisors, and Co-Op Advisors, I would not have had the opportunity to apply my academic education to the real-world experience that I have gained through internships.
Will you please describe any internship, study abroad, service learning or academic experience? (For example, Academic Festival, Research Think Tank, etc.)
I interned with the Buffalo Sabres PR Department. This internship taught me a lot about Sport Management and Marketing, which is a career that I plan to pursue. I also interned for the Empire State Games Local PR committee, which involved interviewing and writing articles about local Alumni. I gained advertising experience when I interned with The Buffalo News in their Direct Mail/Advertising Department. I am now interning with Eric Mower & Associates, which has been a great learning experience, having the opportunity to directly contribute to the PR Team. It has always been my goal to gain as much real-world experience as possible, prior to graduation, so that I can sort through the various opportunities that I have for my future. This will allow me to be confident in the career-path that I choose.
What do you like best about Daemen College?
I will never forget the relationships that I formed with faculty, professors, and students at Daemen College. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that these people have guided me throughout my college experience, and ultimately gave me the tools that I need for a successful future.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to continue my studies at a local college/university in pursuit of my MBA.
What clubs or organizations have you been a part of here at Daemen College?
I am the Vice President of the Sport Management Club, which originated my freshman year here at Daemen. It’s been a great experience watching the club grow and evolve into a successful student organization.
Do you have a favorite campus activity?
Studying in the RIC is a big part of my academic experience at Daemen. I usually grab a drink from RIC’s Daily Grind and then find a quiet spot to study.
What is your favorite campus hangout?
My favorite campus hang out is the Business Lounge. Many people pass by and overlook this spot, so it’s a quiet area for my friends and me to hang out and relax between classes.
