Internship: Buffalo Sabres

We know what employers expect and we make sure our students develop the professionalism, excellent communication skills, and the ability to solve problems they need to be successful. Change is something we all confront and in these stressful economic times we know our students will have an edge over many other candidates who have not had internship experience. Added to this is the fact that everyone can expect to change careers seven times in their working lives. Gaining work experience before they graduate helps Daemen students build successful careers, and meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Kelly Berg, who participated in three different internships during her four years of college, said, “I had an internship my second year with the Buffalo Bandits. In my Junior Year I had an internship with the Buffalo Sabres, and in my senior year I interned with the Buffalo Bills.” Kelly was a Daemen Business Administration/Sport Management major.

In describing her internship experience she said, “I entered college like everyone else, wondering what I should do for the rest of my life. I started in one field and like most students changed halfway through my college years. At the end of my second year is when I decided to throw a curve-ball into my college plans. I immediately decided to start looking for an internship to make sure I was going to enjoy the new direction that I had chosen.”

A Daemen education extends beyond the chalkboard into the real world. It is essential that today’s students leave college with all the tools necessary to succeed in a multifaceted work environment.  As Kelly told us “while at my internships I was allowed to work in several different departments within the organizations to find where my talent best fit. I quickly learned my strengths, as well as the areas that I needed work on. These hands on experiences were priceless. My Internships prepared me for what to expect after graduation, as well as give me experiences to talk about when I was interviewing for full time jobs.” That’s why Daemen works hard to coordinate placement for all of our students in high quality internship settings.  We want each of our students to work in their field, challenge themselves and find out where their strengths are too.
