Daemen College-Seneca Babcock Partnership Awarded Grant from The Josephine Goodyear Foundation
In June of 2005, Daemen College received a check of $2500 from The Josephine Goodyear Foundation. Funds will be used for supplies and educational materials for the after-school education program for children in grades K-8 in Seneca Babcock, part of the Daemen College-Seneca Babcock Partnership.

Since 1998, Daemen students and faculty have provided direct services to low-income youth in the Seneca Babcock neighborhood through The Daemen College-Seneca Babcock Partnership, a project of the Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement. The goals of the Partnership are to improve the well-being of families in this low-income community and to prepare graduates who are dedicated to the well-being of both our local and global communities.

Daemen students provide services to youth K-12 at three sites: The Boys and Girls Club, The Seneca Babcock Community Center, and The Seneca Street Church. In the fall 2003 and spring 2004, a total of 146 Daemen students provided after-school tutoring 3-4 days per week in English, reading, math, social studies, Spanish, and computers. In August 2004, Daemen partnered with Southside Elementary to sponsor a summer reading camp for 83 elementary students who were identified as having serious reading difficulties. In September of 2004, The Center added enrichment modules to the after-school programs, offering dance, music, drama, and sports conditioning, along with homework. These modules provide the youth an opportunity to participate in exciting programs that are beyond the financial reach of their families. In May of 2005, the Daemen College-Seneca Babcock Partnership received a Civic Empowerment Award, presented by the Buffalo Niagara All-America City Committee.
