Daemen Awarded Funds for Nursing Student Scholarships
In July of 2005, Daemen was awarded $20,058 from the Department of Health and Human Services for Advanced Education Nursing Traineeships. Funds will be used toward scholarships for individuals in Daemen's graduate nursing programs. This is the seventh year that Daemen has received this grant.

The adult nurse practitioner program prepares nurses to provide primary health care to clients from young adulthood through senescence. The care settings generally include homes, ambulatory health care settings, acute care settings, and long term care facilities. Students develop expertise through classroom lecture and supervised clinical experiences in the areas of diagnosis and treatment of physical conditions. The adult nurse practitioner program is offered as a Masters degree, a combined RN to Master's program, and as a post-Master's certificate program. In the five years since the program started, four graduates have been awarded the Western New York Student Nurse Practitioner Award, and two have won the New York State Coalition of Nurse Practitioners Outstanding Student Award.

The palliative care program is available as a 30-credit masters degree program and as a post-bachelors certificate, entailing 16 credits. The programs are available to anyone holding a B.S.N. The program is one of the first graduate programs in New York State to focus on end of life care.

The nursing executive leadership program, started in September of 2004, prepares graduates for careers in nursing administration. The full time M.S.N. program consists of 36 credits that can be completed in 16 months or 24 months
