Daemen College Awarded Grant from Premier Assistive Technology, Inc.
Daemen College has been awarded the "Breaking Down Barriers to Assistive Technology Grant" valued at $8,836 from Premier Assistive Technology, Inc. The grant program was established in 2002 to help bridge the gap between education budgets and the need for educational organizations to deploy sufficient resources to serve the needs and requirements of special education programs.

The grant provides software and an unlimited site license to Daemen, allowing the College to install the Accessibility Suite of software on all the computers owned by the College. The assistive technology software addresses reading, writing and information transfer needs for individuals with visual, cognitive and mobility challenges. Applications for learning disabilities, general literacy and English as a Second Language can also be served using the existing assistive technologies. The grant also provides Accessibility Suite Training videos.

Danielle LaMarre serves as the Assistant Coordinator for the Learning Center and the Center for Services to Students with Disabilities at Daemen College. "The Premier Assistive Technology grant will allow the college to provide a higher quality of services to students with disabilities. Additionally, this technology can be utilized by all students, faculty, and staff for tasks such as proof reading, making better use of scanned items, listening to a reading while taking notes, and much more."
