Daemen Names New Director of Health Care Studies Program
Daemen College has named Justine M. Tutuska director of its Health Care Studies Program. Tutuska holds a Master of Public Health degree in health promotion from San Diego State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, from the State University of New York College at Oswego. She is a licensed massage therapist, holding a certificate from the New York Institute of Massage. Tutuska is also the owner of Body Mind Essentials, a Buffalo small business focused on promoting individual wellness for its clients.
As director of Daemen's Health Care Studies Program, her teaching responsibilities will include: Contemporary Issues in Integrative Health Care; Foundations of Meditation and Mental Imagery; Introduction to the Chakra System; and a Professional Practicum.
Daemen's Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Health Care Studies offers professional training concentrations in community health, complementary and alternative health care practices, and health and fitness training. The Daemen College B.S. in Health Care Studies is an interdisciplinary degree program combining contemporary studies in health-related areas with comprehensive course work in the liberal arts and behavioral, social, natural and health sciences.
"Our mission is to prepare students to become knowledgeable, adaptable, reflective and service-oriented professionals," said Keith Taylor, dean of Daemen's Division of Health and Human Services. "Our goal is to ensure that our graduates have a life-long commitment to providing a holistic approach to health care, prevention and wellness. Justine's unique blend of talents and tremendous enthusiasm make her the ideal person to direct this innovative program at Daemen."
In addition to taking advantage of career opportunities within their area of concentration, graduates of the Daemen College Health Care Studies Program may pursue admission to graduate or other degree programs in many professional disciplines, such as those in allied health (physical therapy, physician assistant, athletic training and occupational therapy); education; public health; and business.
By offering three professional training concentrations, the Daemen Health Care Studies Program will give graduates direct access into a career field upon completion of the program. In community health, graduates will be prepared to pursue careers in community health education programs; also staff positions within health care systems, insurance agencies, government, and not-for-profit community health agencies. Graduates of the complementary and alternative health care practices concentration will be prepared for careers in consultation and program development, and service delivery in a variety of related areas.
Those completing the health and fitness training concentration will be prepared for careers in fitness and wellness consultation and development; implementation and management of programs for performance enhancement; and injury and disease prevention. Additionally, individualized plans of study may lead to preparation for certifications such as health and fitness instructor and/or strength and conditional specialist.
Additional information about the Daemen College Health Care Studies Degree Program can be obtained on the Daemen web site, www.daemen.edu/admissions or through contacting the Daemen Office of Admissions 716/839-8225.
