Six Daemen College art students, under the supervision of Daemen Professor of Art James A. Allen, have created two wall-sized murals in the courtrooms of the Amherst Town Court on John James Audubon Parkway in the Town of Amherst. The murals will be unveiled at 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 19, during a reception at Amherst Town Court.
The wall murals, more than 20 feet in height and nearly 20 feet in width, form dramatic backdrops to the courtrooms of Amherst Town Justices Mark G. Farrell and Geoffrey K. Klein. The artworks were the result of a conversation between Amherst Town Court Administrator Jim Loughran and Daemen College Professor of Religious Studies Charles Sabatino, and were more than a year in the making. "This project would not have been possible without the talent and participation of Professor Jim Allen and the students from Daemen College, who worked to create such wonderful artworks," Loughran noted. "We are also indebted to the Amherst Town Attorney's Office; the Amherst Police Department; the Amherst Senior Citizens' Center; and the Amherst Highway Department Sign Shop, for their assistance and support. This really represents what can be accomplished through community involvement and the public-private partnership." "Daemen College is extremely proud of the work done by Jim Allen and the six students who were involved in creating these beautiful artworks," added Daemen President Martin J. Anisman. "We are happy to be a part of this."
