Daemen College will present the 10th Annual World on Your Plate food and sustainable living conference Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 on the Daemen campus.

           World on Your Plate (WOYP) will be held from 6:30 – 9 p.m. October 11, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. October 12.

WOYP is a food forum focusing on local resources as well as sustainable, safe, and healthy food and environmental practices.  WOYP promotes sustainability for farmers, farm workers, and consumers, while advancing education and action on issues of food safety, security, and sovereignty.

“This unique community event annually draws like-minded people who are interested in safe, sustainable food sources,” said Sharon Benz, Assistant Director of the Daemen Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement.

“We actively promote the importance of locally grown and raised food, health and nutrition, environmental sustainability, and advancing food education.”

This year’s program includes two keynote presentations. Beginning 6:30 p.m., Friday will feature four film screenings, followed by Elizabeth Henderson – food activist, organic farmer, and founder of the Peacework Organic CSA. Henderson will discuss “Food Justice: What It Means and Why We Need It In Western New York.”

Saturday will feature morning workshops, including health, wellness, diet, food justice, farming, gardening, and yoga. Dr. Jane Mt. Pleasant, director of the Cornell University American Indian Studies program and an expert on Iroquois and indigenous agriculture, will speak at 1:15 p.m. on the topic of Native agriculture and its importance for sustainable living.

Pre-registration is $25 at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/8228003179?ref=ebtnebregn .  Students are free with pre-registration and a valid student ID.  Admission is $30 at the door.
