Supporting Senior Class fundraising efforts, Daemen College President Dr. Edwin Clausen, Director of Housing and Special Initiatives Dan Nilsson, and Chemistry Lab Coordinator Derrick Swartz will each take a round in the dunk tank during the Daemen College 2012 Spring Fest this Saturday, April 28, 2012 on the Daemen campus.

NOTE: Dr. Clausen, Nilsson, and Swartz will begin their turns in the dunk tank at 2:00 p.m. sharp at the west end of the main parking lot on the Daemen campus. Parking for media will be kept open for this event.

Dr. Clausen’s appearance in the dunk tank is the result of Daemen students meeting a challenge and raising $1083.00 toward that goal. All funds raised for the dunk tank will go toward the 2012 Senior Class Gift to Daemen.

All individuals who donated to the dunk tank will take their tosses first. Additional tickets for tosses to the dunk tank will be sold during Springfest at Daemen – $1.00 of each ticket sold goes to the Senior Class Gift. Daemen military veterans will also be appearing in the dunk tank, for an hour prior to the president and two faculty members, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on campus.

“We think that this event, while being a lot of fun, will also work to teach philanthropy and getting involved in supporting class and campus goals,” said Daemen Senior Class President Sarah Hartman. “We love Dr. Clausen, and want to thank him for being generous enough in spirit to do this! We think giving and getting involved are good concepts for our class members – and all members of the Daemen community – to learn.”

Junior Anna Jaremko, who worked with Hartman to plan Springfest activities added, “In order to raise funds, the Senior Class Giving Campaign Committee decided to design a campaign focused around raising enough funds to place the president of our college, Dr. Clausen, in the dunk tank at Springfest. This campaign encouraged students to donate and telling them why fiscal donations to colleges are so important.

“Many of our students receive some form of aid or help at Daemen College, as this is an institution where we firmly believe that everyone deserves the chance to achieve their goals in higher education. The Senior Class Gift successfully doubled our goal of five hundred dollars and we are still not finished!”
