5th Annual Daemen College Environmental Summit
Will Promote Home Weatherizing, Water Conservation, Saving Money Through Saving Energy
“How can I save money while also saving energy? What are the best methods of weatherizing my home? What can I do to conserve water?” These questions, among many others, will be among the topics addressed at the Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement’s 5th Annual Environmental Summit: “Pushing Forward.”
The Summit will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., in Wick Center on the Daemen College campus, 4380 Main Street in Amherst. The Summit is open to the public – to register call (716) 839-8524.
“This Summit will be very consumer-oriented,” notes Cheryl Bird, Executive Director of the Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement. “We will provide a wealth of useful information on how to save energy, conserve water, and become a better environmental citizen. We will also address questions such as ‘What is an environmental footprint? Are there things that all of us can do to become more environmentally conscious, that are relatively inexpensive, and easy to do?’ We will focus on those types of subjects at the Summit, and we will also present an update from the New York State Senate Standing Committee on Environmental Conservation.
“By attending the Summit, you will also have an opportunity to get an inside look at the new Daemen College Research & Information Commons, which is among the first free-standing “green” buildings on a Western New York college campus. It is built with "green" design features – to conserve energy, water, and other resources, maximize the use of recycled materials, and minimize the use of toxic materials.”
Registration for the 5th Annual Environmental Summit will take place 8:30-9:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 26, in the Wick Center on the Daemen campus.
The Summit’s opening hour, starting at 9:00 a.m., will present an update from New York
State Senator Antoine Thompson, who sits on the New York State Senate Standing Committee on Environmental Conservation;
remarks from the Community Foundation on their newly formed Environmental Alliance; and introductions of organizations and businesses featured at the Summit information tables.
