Business First has named Audre J. Bunis, longtime Western New York arts advocate and member of the Daemen Board of Trustees, one of Western New York’s  “Women of Influence” for 2011. Bunis is Chair of the Daemen College campaign for the coming Visual and Performing Arts Center, now under construction. The Arts Center will support a wide range of new ventures in the arts at Daemen College.

In a statement, Business First recognized Audre Bunis as among WNY’s top community supporters: “Women who, though they may not have the big title or a corner office, are a driving force behind the success of their employer.”

“We congratulate Audre on this well-deserved honor,” said Daemen President Dr. Edwin Clausen. “Audre’s long record of involvement with Western New York’s arts community, and her many successes in assisting some of our region’s most significant arts organizations, make her an important asset on the Daemen Board of Trustees and in creating our new Arts Center.”

Among the many arts organizations with which Bunis has been actively involved are the Burchfield-Penney, where she has served for more than 10 years as a member of the museum's council and the museum store advisory committee. She played an active role in supporting the former Studio Arena Theatre, serving on both the theatre's board and as chair of the annual Take A Seat event. She is, also, a member of the board of directors of the Western New York Artists Group of Art Dialogue. Other arts organizations Bunis has assisted include Art On Wheels; Friends of the UB School of Architecture; Chautauqua Center for the Visual Arts; and The Albright Knox Art Gallery. For more than three decades, Bunis was an executive with The Sample, Inc.

To meet the demands of growing enrollment in its arts programs, Daemen College has begun construction of its new Arts Center, bringing the visual and performing arts together in a dedicated center designed to showcase the arts and fire the imagination. Among the Visual and Performing Arts Center’s key goals are to magnify the place of the arts in Daemen campus life; emphasize connections among the arts; and strengthen the ties between the Daemen College arts community and the community at large.
