Daemen College and the Town of Amherst marked a new stage in their relationship with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at Daemen September 10.

The agreement focuses on improved relations across a range of municipal and community matters.

Recent efforts by the College and Town officials to resolve ongoing parking issues on streets surrounding the campus have brought about mutually-agreed upon solutions. This includes the addition of 146 parking spaces by Daemen.

“With this agreement Daemen and the Town of Amherst are significantly strengthening our already good relationship,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson.

“Our community relations are important to us. We want to be good neighbors.”

“Daemen College – and Rosary Hill before that – has always been regarded as a significant part of the Town,” said Amherst Supervisor Dr. Barry Weinstein.

“We appreciate Dr. Olson and the College working with us on the parking issues, and we look forward to mutual cooperation on many other matters.”

Additional recent measures initiated by Daemen include formation of a new Community Advisory Board of public and private sector community leaders to help the College connect with communities and build effective partnerships in the Western New York region.

Another is the announcement of a new campus beautification campaign recently launched by the College to transform the Amherst campus into permanent enhanced green space. The College has announced the planting of over 100 mature trees on October 26. Additional permanent landscaping improvements will continue to enhance the College’s frontage from Getzville Road to Campus Drive in Amherst.
