Daemen Awarded $38,632 from HRSA for Scholarships for Nursing Education
Daemen College has been awarded $38,632 from the Department of Health and Human Services for Advanced Education Nursing Traineeships. These funds will allow the College to provide additional financial assistance to students enrolled in Daemen’s graduate degree nursing programs.
Daemen’s programs offer a range of options to support advanced education for nurses. The nursing executive leadership program, started in September of 2004, prepares graduates for positions in nursing administration and education. The full time M.S. in nursing program consists of 34 credits that can be completed in 16 months or 24 months. A 24-credit hour post-baccalaureate program in Nursing Executive Leadership is also available. The adult nurse practitioner program (36 credits) prepares nurses to provide primary health care to clients from young adulthood through senescence.
The adult nurse practitioner program is offered as a Masters degree, a combined RN to Master’s program, and as a post-Master’s certificate program. The palliative care program is available as a 30-credit masters’ degree program and as a post-bachelors certificate, entailing 16 credits. The program is one the few graduate degree programs in the U.S. to focus on end of life care. The nursing education program (30 credits) was begun in fall 2006 to prepare nurse educators. This program was designed to address the critical shortage of nursing faculty. A post master’s certificate in nursing education (12 credits) is also available.
