Daemen College Holding Open House for New Visual Effects (VFX) Certificate Training Program

Daemen Colleges Visual and Performing Arts Department will be hosting an Open House on November 16th for students interested in the Daemen Certificate Training Program in Visual Effects, and job opportunities within the emerging visual effects/post production and animation industries in Buffalo.

The Open House will be held at the Daemen College International Center for Excellence in Animation (ICEA) at the Tri Main Center Building, 2495 Main Street, Suite 530, in Buffalo, from 10:00 A.M. to Noon on Saturday, November 16th.

"It's an exciting time at the ICEA with the growth of the Visual Effects (VFX) certificate program and the new opportunities resulting from our industry partners. We look forward to opening our doors to show the community our accomplishments," said Dr. Laura Sommer, Chair of Daemen CollegeNovember 16th Open House will also show prospective students first hand the ICEA facilities now, and the future $1,500,000 expansion that is underway to meet the needs of our VFX students.

Daemen College is accepting applications for this impressive VFX program for training cohorts beginning in January, 2014; May, 2014; and September of 2014. Through the ICEA and Daemens Visual and Performing Arts program, students with a two-year Associate Degree may be placed in a rigorous 4-month program to fill at least 150 new jobs in the visual effects and post production sector over the next five years, including jobs with Daemens corporate partners at the Tri Main Center complex.

Daemen College was recently awarded a $1,949,000 Buffalo Billion grant by Empire State Development (ESD) for its pioneering work with a private visual effects/post production company and the creation of this unique visual effects certificate training program. The grant was announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo on July 11th and Lt. Governor Robert Duffy appeared at the ICEA to formally represent the Governor at a ceremony at the ICEA that day.

Most recently, the Amherst Chamber of Commerce awarded the International Center for Excellence in Animation (ICEA) at Daemen College its Business of the Year Innovation Award. The award was received by the College at the Chambers 2013 Business of the Year Awards dinner on October 28th.

Applications for the VFX Certificate Program will be available at the Open House, or interested students may contact the Daemen College Admissions Office at 839-8225 to apply to the program.
