The Amherst Chamber of Commerce has awarded the International Center for Excellence in Animation (ICEA) at Daemen College its Business of the Year Innovation Award. The award will be received by the College at the Chambers 2013 Business of the Year Awards dinner on October 28th at Salvatores Italian Gardens in Depew.

Daemen is extremely proud to have the Amherst Chamber include the ICEA among its eight award winners for outstanding achievement in the region, said Daemen College President, Dr. Gary A. Olson. In honoring the ICEA, the Chamber has recognized that the Center is a catalyst for the creation of new jobs and a new visual effects and post production industry right here in Buffalo.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce has over 2,000 members throughout the Western New York region and annually presents the Business of the Year awards to eight businesses or organizations for outstanding achievement in their industries throughout Western New York.

Dr. Laura Sommer, Chair of Daemen Colleges Visual and Performing Arts Department will accept the award on behalf of the ICEA. In a statement from her office on the Amherst campus, Dr. Sommer stated: This award is not only a recognition of the innovation within the ICEA, but a reflection of the Colleges willingness to partner with the private sector, create new educational programs, and provide new opportunities to its students. We are honored to be receiving this prestigious award.

Daemen College was recently awarded a $1,949,000 Buffalo Billion grant by Empire State Development (ESD) for its pioneering work with a private visual effects/post production company and the creation of a unique visual effects certificate training program. Through the ICEA and Daemens Visual and Performing Arts program, students with a two-year Associate Degree may be placed in a rigorous 4-month program to fill at least 150 new jobs in the visual effects and post production sector over the next five years.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards Dinner will be held on Monday, October 28th at 5:30 P.M. at Salvatores Italian Gardens, 6461 Transit Road, Depew, New York.
