Daemen College ‘Warm Feet Campaign’ for Refugees Major Success
December 11, 2013
Special Assistant to the President
What the Daemen College family does for others, matters. Under the leadership of Ms. Adriane Z. Williams ,Senior Academic Advisor at Daemen College, The Warm Feet Campaign collected well over 300 pairs of socks that were donated to Journeys End Refugee Services in Buffalo.
Ms. Williams said: During the months of October and November, Peer Mentors and IND 101 students collected socks, for men, women, boys and girls of all ages. So many people brought in socks, Id look up from my desk and someone would be standing in my office doorway with socks, it was great!. It was such an awesome feeling to see the bags and bags and boxes of socks, knowing that theyd be going to people who really needed them.
Ms. Williams went on to say: We were and are, overwhelmed with the generosity the Daemen community demonstrated, especially since this was the first year weve done something like this. So many of the refugees who end up in Buffalo are coming from very warm climates with little or no warm clothing and no means to go out and buy them. When I dropped the socks off, the volunteer workers were so happy to be getting such a large donation of things people usually dont think to give, socks. They were very thankful and appreciative.
Because of the success experienced with this endeavor, Ms. Williams announced that The Warm Feet Campaign will be an annual event at Daemen College, and that next year Daemen hopes to collect enough socks to be able to donate to several of the Buffalo agencies that assist the less fortunate in our community.
