The Daemen College International Center for Excellence in Animation (ICEA) has been recognized for innovation by the Amherst Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards for 2013.

The Daemen Animation Program, offered through the ICEA, is built around multiple strengths, recognized by animation professionals and business leaders. These include the combination of the flexibility and depth of a Liberal Arts program; the strong visual skills of a Fine Arts program; and the technological opportunities presented by upper level, specialized animation instruction.

“Daemen College is proud to receive this recognition from the Amherst Chamber,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson.

“Daemen’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation degree is world class. Students will have all of the advantages of an accredited degree program, a strong arts foundation, and integrated industry programs.”

In addition, through a $4.5 million grant awarded by Governor Cuomo, Daemen has entered into a higher education-private sector partnership with Empire Visual Effects to create a unique visual effects/post-production/animation “hub” in Buffalo’s Tri-Main Center.

Through the ICEA, Daemen offers a Visual Effects Certificate Training program, to fast track community college students into a rigorous training program at Daemen and then into high-paying visual effects jobs at Empire.

The goal of the Daemen/Empire Visual Effects partnership is to bring new technology-based jobs to Western New York, train a workforce that will stay at home, and create a brand new visual effects/post-production industry in Buffalo.

The Amherst Chamber Business of the Year Awards recognize outstanding businesses that contribute to the Western New York economy. The 2013 Business of the Year Awards dinner will take place on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Salvatore's Italian Gardens.
