The next presentation in the Daemen College Department of Social Work Lecture Series will be “Art Therapy in a Clinical Setting with Youth,” March 17, 2010, in Wick Center on the Daemen campus, 4380 Main Street, in Amherst. The lecture will take place from 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m., and will include a lunch buffet.

The lecture will be presented by Elizabeth Davis, M.F.A., M.S., ART-BC, LCAT. Davis is a board certified and state licensed art therapist with over 10 years experience working with at risk youth with various disabilities and challenges from the Buffalo area communities. She also is experienced in play therapy techniques and is a certified gang specialist. Davis has provided individual and group art therapy for persons diagnosed with HIV and AIDS; outpatient drug and alcohol addictions; special education students; and developmentally disabled children.
Davis is currently a full-time employee of Gateway-Longview, as well as a vender for Families25. “Art Therapy in a Clinical Setting with Youth” is designed to offer an overview of the artistic stages of childhood development and their significance; what art therapy brings to the table in the treatment of childhood trauma; insecure attachment, depression, grief, anxiety disorders, and other emotional disorders; and what art therapy techniques may be easily integrated into a clinician’s practice, regardless of the practitioner’s art knowledge or art background.
