Daemen Student Named WNY Outstanding Air Force Reservist of the Year

Senior Airman Joshua Larwood, an aeromedical evacuation technician in the 914th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron (AES) at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and a Daemen College student, has been named Outstanding Air Force Reservist of the Year for Western New York. Airman Larwood is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in natural science/Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).
Airman Larwood will be recognized at the Western New York Armed Forces Ball, in the Connecticut Street Armory on Saturday, May 11th.
Airman Larwood is currently deployed to Southwest Asia with the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing.
“Daemen College congratulates Josh on this significant honor,” said Daemen President Dr. Gary A. Olson.
“We are proud of our student veterans, and all of those who have served in direct support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Student veterans are an important and welcome part of the Daemen College community.”
Airman Larwood enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve after completing one year at Niagara County Community College. After completing Basic Military Training as an Honor Graduate, he was selected student leader at his Technical Training School at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.
While assigned to the 914th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron Airman Larwood deployed in support of Operations New Dawn and Iraqi Freedom, where he provided critical medical support and care for our wounded warriors. He has been hand-picked to support European Command medical evacuation missions on four separate occasions.
As an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician Flight Instructor, Airman Larwood ensures that squadron flyers maintain 100 percent flying currency training, and participate in flying continuation training events. In addition to being a full-time student at Daemen College, he is a member of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Honor Guard. Some of Airman Larwood’s decorations include the Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, and BMT Honor Graduate ribbon.
