The Daemen College men's basketball team raised $3,000 today in participation of the "Bald for Bucks" fundraiser sponsored by the College's Honors Program.
The entire fundraiser netted nearly $4,300 in donations which will be passed along to Roswell Park Cancer Institute for research and patient support programs.
Head coach Don Silveri led the team's fundraising efforts and participated in the event for the second time, having done it previously back in 2005.
"This is a great event put on by our Honors Program and we were more than happy to be involved," Silveri said.
"I want to personally thank everyone who made donations today on our behalf. The battle against cancer is as important a cause as there is today and every dollar helps."
Participating players included juniors Mark Coppola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South), Troy Nowak (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), Kadeem Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger), and Uchechi Ogbonna (Hicksville, N.Y./Erie CC), sophomores Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili), Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) and freshmen Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) and Tom Escott (Amherst, N.Y./St. Joe's).
Each participant had their head shaved this morning before a sizeable crowd at the Charles J. Wick Campus Center.
