Buffalo artist and Daemen College faculty member Jane Marinsky will debut paintings from her new picture book Just Perfect in the Daemen College International Center for Excellence in Animation (ICEA) 5-8 p.m., November 23.
The ICEA is located in the Tri-Main Center, 2495 Main Street, in Buffalo. Books will be available for sale and signing by the artist. ICEA exhibit hours are M-F 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In her new picture book, Marinsky uses a spare storyline and rich illustrations, combining the desire for a new pet and welcoming a new baby into a warm children’s story.
Kirkus Reviews: “Overall, Just Perfect has a calm tone, and there is a gentle kindness in the older brother that appeals – in the last picture he reads an animal book to the new baby.”
School Library Journal: “Children will enjoy this sweet look at a growing family.”
Marinsky’s previous exhibit, in 2009, The Goat-Faced Girl Paintings, was taken from the children’s book The Goat-Faced Girl, a Classic Italian Folktale, Retold by Leah Marinsky Sharpe -- Illustrated by Jane Marinsky.
Jane Marinsky holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, from the University of Rochester (1973), and a BFA in Graphic Design from the State University of New York at Buffalo (1976). She studied illustration with Alan Cober, renowned American illustrator. In addition to her position as a Professor of Illustration at Daemen College, Jane also works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. For more information: www.marinskyillustration.com
