In an effort to continue raising awareness of bullying and the issues surrounding it, Daemen College students and faculty will present a cabaret of song, dance, and instrumental performances featuring Daemen's Voices of Zion and local group "Peaceful Dove." The event, “Raise Your Voice: An Anti-Bullying Performance,” will be held 7:00 - 8:45 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011, in Wick Center on the Daemen campus, 4380  Main Street, in Amherst. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

“Raise Your Voice: An Anti-Bullying Performance,” will present an atmosphere of hope, respect, and acceptance through the common languages of music and dance. This event is sponsored by the Daemen College Pre-Law Association and History & Government Club with assistance from the Equity & Diversity Initiatives Council.

Family representatives of the late Jamey Rodemeyer will be in attendance that evening selling bracelets to benefit the Rodemeyer family's anti-bullying campaign.

“In the aftermath of the tragedy of Jamey Rodemeyer’s suicide, a group of Daemen faculty and administrators met to ask what can we do to prevent bullying,” said Daemen Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Kathleen Boone. “Out of that discussion, rose an open forum on campus, in which 40 to 50 people became involved. Raise Your Voice is a direct result of that forum.

“We are also exploring training opportunities for staff and students alike to address bullying both on the Daemen campus and in the wider community. With so many Daemen students involved in service learning and field placements in their majors, we  want to equip our students to reach out to others who may be struggling with this issue in their lives.”

Additionally, the Daemen College Department of Visual & Performing Arts has begun developing a new play about cyber-bullying/cyber-sadism, with the goal of a performance of the work at the 2012 Daemen College Academic Festival in April, 2012. A central focus of research and scriptwriting is to involve conversations/workshops with high school students, so that the play can also serve as the basis for student-led discussion.
