Daemen College volunteers can participate in the United Way 2011 Day of Caring together with staff and administrators from the Daemen Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement. Members of the Daemen group will be assisting the Friendly Fruit Belt Block Club with their community gardens. Day of Caring volunteers will take part in maintaining and beautifying the gardens with weeding, mulching, planting, mowing and edging.

Volunteers should meet at 8:30 a.m. August 17 in the Duns Scotus parking lot. A Daemen van will travel to the gardens.  The morning's activities will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12:30; lunch will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at HSBC Arena.  Volunteers will return to campus following lunch.

All volunteers should plan to wear clothes suitable for outdoor gardening work, and should bring gardening gloves.  T-shirts will be provided. Up to 20 volunteers can participate. If you are interested, please contact Pam Neumann by return e-mail or at ext. 8504.
