In a continuing effort to respond to the needs of Western New York military families, the Daemen College Center for Veterans and Veteran Family Services Office is pleased to announce a second season of Listening Circles for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.  Veterans for America has found that front line troops having served multiple combat tours often struggle with serious issues including emotional difficulties, PTSD, and alcoholism multiple challenges that impact them and their families.

The goal of the Listening Circle is to develop a safe space for veterans and cultivate understanding, to help participants and their families develop and enhance relationships and rebuild trust person to person and to the community, said Patrick W. Welch, Ph.D., Sgt. USMC (ret), Director, Center for Veterans and Veteran Family Services Office.

Many of the comments from veterans who have attended an earlier event at Daemen geared toward veterans, Listening to the Unheard: Identifying the Needs of Returning Veterans and their Families, indicated we needed to have more resources in the Western New York community that address the issues and unique challenges faced by military families. The Center for Veterans and Veteran Family Services Office at Daemen College has been established to assist in meeting their needs.
