AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College professional master’s athletic training program student Kaitlyn Gustafson is the only student from a Western New York institution selected to receive a 2017 iLead Scholarship from the New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association (NYSATA).

The $1,500 scholarship provided funding for Gustafson to attend the iLead Conference held in conjunction with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Educators Conference that took place this month in Grapevine, Texas. As one of four iLead Scholarship recipients from across the state, she will have the opportunity to write an article on a conference session for publication in an upcoming NYSATA newsletter distributed to association members.

The iLead Scholarship is designed to develop the next generation of leaders in the athletic training profession. Selection is based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership and community service activities, and future plans as an athletic training professional.

Gustafson, an Amherst resident, is a first-year student in Daemen’s professional master’s athletic training program, and serves as vice president of the college’s Athletic Training Student Association.

“This scholarship speaks to Kaitlyn’s exceptional academic achievement and leadership potential as a professional athletic trainer,” said Dr. Nicole Chimera, athletic training program director and associate professor. “We are very proud of her for receiving this scholarship.”
