Allegany State Park, Salamanca, New York is NYS’s largest state park, known for its wildlife and containing 65,000 acres of mature forests, three lakes and several streams. Housing is provided for summer semester interns.
Trail and Infrastructure Mapping – Applicant will work on trail and infrastructure mapping projects by utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Projects would seek to improve computer-based information systems at Allegany State Park. This internship may involve collaborative efforts with other local organizations that also support this initiative. Allegany State Park contains a number of miles of trails including those designated for such activities as; horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, bicycling, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. The park also contains extensive infrastructure (water, waste water, electric power) that serves park facilities. Special projects may involve digitizing existing maps, collecting GPS data, working with GIS software and developing new maps for trails and infrastructure at Allegany State Park. This internship requires a tech savvy candidate to have background in the use of ESRI GIS software, GPS units and ability to work with database programs.
