The City of Buffalo/Division of Citizen Services Urban Fellows Internship Program is designed to introduce our region’s most talented college students and graduates to local government and public service, through hands-on practical learning experiences. This unique opportunity, available for one semester, summer or one full academic year in duration, allows students to sharpen their skills, while discovering the many challenges that public government faces in addressing the needs and concerns of the public. The New York State Department of Health is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the 2010 New York State Public Health Works! Undergraduate Internship Program. The purpose of the program is to introduce undergraduate students to the variety of public health careers available for individuals with training in a science- based field. Undergraduate college students majoring in science fields, such as biology,chemistry and earth science, or public health, are eligible to apply for the program. Graduates or seniors planning to graduate in May of 2010 are not eligible to apply. The Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation, Allegany Region, will consider qualified candidates for summer internships in the following fields at the specified locations. Allegany State Park, Salamanca, New York is NYS’s largest state park, known for its wildlife and containing 65,000 acres of mature forests, three lakes and several streams. Housing is provided for summer semester interns.
Environmental Education and Interpretation – Applicant should have a background in the natural sciences, environmental studies or conservation. Duties will include working with park naturalists in providing programs, walks and children’s activities related to the natural environment in the park; acting as a resource for patrons and park personnel; developing and implementing programs, bulletin boards or posters; and coordinating with park managers and other departments. Applicant must be physically fit, willing to work outside in all weather and capable of relating to a diverse population. Science Firsthand program Intern. This internship is most appropriate for students pursuing a degree in a science, technology, engineering, math, education, social work, or related field. Must have reliable transportation to multiple locations. Internship is a one-semester commitment, but two semesters is welcomed. Approximately twenty hours per week.
