Q. What computer accounts are available for Daemen students?
A. Computer accounts are automatically created for all Daemen students. These accounts will give students access to all Daemen services including an email address, webadvisor access and all other computing services. Daemen's student e-mail is provided through Google and accessed through a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, or Firefox. Your student's email address will most likely be in the format firstName.lastName followed by @daemen.edu.
Q. How can I find out my Daemen username, email address and password?
A. If you completed your registration by the time orientation has started you can go to MyDaemen Username Lookup and Password Creation or anytime thereafter. Be careful to enter your social security number and birth date according to the format shown. You can access this site at any computer on campus or at your home.
Q. What kind of a computer should a student bring to Daemen College?
A. Any recently purchased computer will be adequate for the academic needs of Daemen students. For older computers, a minimum configuration for academic purposes only would be Windows XP Service Pack 3, an Intel® Pentium® 4, Intel Centrino®, or Intel Core™ Duo (or compatible) processor, and a minimum of 1 Gb of memory, or a Macintosh computer running OS 10.3 or higher. For NetBooks, we would recommend a minimum of 20 Gb of hard disk space. Most students use computers with the Windows 7 or Windows Vista operating system. Students majoring in graphic design may prefer to use a computer with the Macintosh operating system.
Laptop computers are convenient and the most popular choice, but not required.
Q. Are any student discounts available on computers?
A. Education student pricing is available on Dell and Apple computers.
Q. Are there any prohibitions?
A. Students may not bring wireless routers to campus. Gaming network, file sharing, or other servers are also prohibited.
Q. What software is most frequently used on campus?
A. All Daemen College undergraduate students are eligible to purchase Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) at a discounted rate. Microsoft Office is available through our partner JourneyEd. Resident students will receive the anti-virus software, Symantec Endpoint Protection, as part of a required network registration. Students may contact their individual department for specific software recommendations.
Q. What computer facilities are available on campus?
A. Academic Computing Services maintains public-access computers in the Research and Information Commons and the Business and Commerce Building. Several academic departments, including Visual and Performing Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Psychology, maintain computer laboratories and stand-alone computer systems with specialized software and peripherals.

Q. How can Daemen students access the internet?
A. Ethernet jacks for high-speed internet access are available in all college residence halls. Wireless internet access is also available from many locations on campus, including all residence halls. In order to protect against viruses, resident students will be required to register their computers on the network. Registration requires a legal copy of the Windows operating system or MacOS. Students will need to perform all current Windows or MacOS updates and to remove any previously installed anti-virus software and install a managed version of Symantec Endpoint Protection which we will provide.
