Student Health Insurance

Health Insurance

Domestic Resident Students: All Daemen College students residing on campus are required to have health insurance of some kind. Resident students must purchase the Daemen College Student Health Insurance Plan if they do not have other coverage. In cases where students are covered under their parents' insurance, or have other coverage, those students must provide a copy of their insurance card along with a signed waiver of the college plan. These documents must be provided to the Office of Health Services (located in Wick Center) during the first week of classes. Insurance records will be shared with the Office of Residence Life, the Office of Health Services, and Student Accounts for the academic year, for business use only.

Domestic Non-resident Students: Although not a requirement for attendance, Daemen College strongly recommends that non-resident students have some type of health insurance. Students without health insurance may suffer physical, emotional and financial burdens due to medical conditions for which there is no health insurance coverage. For this reason, Daemen College makes available the Daemen College Student Health Insurance Plan. Enrollment in the plan entitles the student to the comprehensive student health services available at Family Care Medical Center. There will be an 'open enrollment' period for Daemen College insurance at the beginning of each semester. Students may enroll in the insurance plan at that time. Students that enroll in the Fall semester will have coverage effective from August 20th until August 19th of the following year. Students that enroll in the Spring semester will have coverage effective the first day of classes for the Spring academic semester until August 19th of that year. After the enrollment periods end, students may enroll ONLY if they have a "qualifying event" such as the loss of previous coverage, age ineligibility because of a recent birthday, loss of job, etc.

International Students: All international students of Daemen College are required to demonstrate proof of acceptable health insurance coverage for accident and illness while living in the United States. Insurance coverage must be in effect for the entire time the student is residing in this country and therefore, must be renewed annually. Canadian Students must provide a copy of their OHIP card along with a signed waiver for the college plan. These documents will be maintained by the Office of Health Services. All other international students must provide a copy of their translated policy to the Office of Health Services along with a signed waiver for the college plan no later than October 13th. If the student fails to submit these documents, the student will be automatically enrolled in the Daemen College Student Health Insurance Plan and billed accordingly. Once a student is enrolled, there is no refund or waiver available. It is the responsibility of the student to provide the necessary documents proving other coverage by the institutional deadlines established in this policy. Information collected by the Health Services Office will be shared with the Office of Student Accounts for business purposes.

Any student who is not covered by their parents' or guardian's insurance, or are not otherwise covered by an insurance plan, may purchase the Daemen College Student Health Insurance Program. Enrollment in the plan entitles the student to the comprehensive student health services available at Family Care Medical Center. The Center is a short distance from the campus on Maple Road. Free round-trip transportation is provided from the College. Spouse and/or dependent coverage is also available. You can pick up an insurance brochure, which describes the medical benefits in the Health & Insurance Services Office or at Wick Desk.
