What was your reason for coming to Daemen College?

Coming from high school, I did not know what I wanted to do. I choose business because of how broad it was. After my second year, I knew I was interested in law so I added the Paralegal Certificate.  I wanted to come to Daemen because I wanted a small school but in a big city.

Describe any internships, study abroad, service learning, or academic experience you had while at Daemen.

The internship I had was with the U.S Attorney’s Office. It was a great experience. I did a lot of hands on work. I also was able to observe all different types of court cases. I learned so much from doing the day to day operations of the U.S Attorney’s Office.

What was the impact Daemen faculty, staff and advisors had on you?

The Daemen faculty is wonderful. Whether it was help getting an internship or just a question about class, they were always there for me. Every professor gave their cell phone number on the first day of class. They really want you to succeed.

Tell us about where you are now.

I was able to get a job with M&T Bank working with the process improvement team. What this means is we look at a process a specific department has and we make it more efficient using analytics. It takes about 8-12 months per process to perfect it.  

How did the Business program and having the Paralegal Certificate help you be so successful in finding a job right after graduation?

Both of these programs gave me the experience I needed to be ready for a job. But what really helped is how impressed all the potential employers were. In today’s world, anyone can be sued. Company’s want someone who has some knowledge of the law to prevent from being sued. Having the Certificate really helped me separate myself from other candidates.

Discuss why you chose to add on the Paralegal Certificate.

I chose to add the Certificate on because I always had an interest in law. I had thought about going to law school and this was a first step to seeing what law was about. Although I decided not to attend law school, the Certificate gave me a greater understanding of the law and how it applies in an everyday setting.
