College to Commemorate Veterans Day

November 05, 2018

AMHERST, N.Y. – Nearly 100 small U.S. flags in honor of veterans will be placed on Daemen College’s campus front lawn as part of activities being held in observance of Veterans Day.

For the celebration on Nov. 8, a flag folding ceremony by the Niagara Air Base Honor Guard will take place at 12:15 p.m. at the college’s flag pole located outside the Research and Information Commons (RIC). Flags will then be installed on the lawn by RIC at 12:30 p.m. in honor of current and past military service members.

The day will also include a lecture, “Understanding and Supporting Those With PTSD,” being presented by Daemen’s LEADS Center at 11:30 a.m. in the Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge. A Veterans Day reception will conclude the day’s events at 1 p.m. in the Nancy Haberman Gacioch Center for Veterans in Duns Scotus Hall.

In addition to these activities, a free lunch will be served to Daemen students, faculty, and staff who are veterans or current service members (military ID required) from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Wick Dining Hall. A POW/MIA remembrance table will also be on display Nov. 8 to 12 in the dining hall.
