Verification

You may receive notification from the Financial Aid Office that your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was selected for review in a process called verification. The law says that before awarding Federal Student Aid, we may ask you to confirm the information you (and your parents if you’re a Dependent student) reported on your FAFSA. To verify that you provided correct information the Financial Aid Administrator at your school will compare your FAFSA with the information on your worksheet and with any other required documents. If there are differences, your FAFSA information may need to be corrected. You (and at least one parent if you’re a Dependent student) must complete and sign your worksheet, attach any required documents, and submit the form and other required documents to the Financial Aid Office. You may be asked for additional information. If you have questions about verification, contact your Financial Aid Administrator as soon as possible so that your financial aid will not be delayed.

Tax Information

Starting with the 2024-25 FAFSA, as part of federal student aid eligibility, students and parents are required to consent and approve sharing and importing income and tax information from the IRS to the FAFSA form, even if the attempt to obtain or use such data is ineffective. In most cases, no further documentation is needed to verify income information that was transferred into the student’s FAFSA using income and tax information directly from the IRS.  If income tax return information for the student and/or parent was not available or could not be used, the student must provide the institution with a IRS Tax Return Transcript(s) or a freshly signed copy of the federal income tax return and applicable schedules.

Students and/or parents that are required to submit tax information can request a Tax Return Transcript directly from the IRS.  Tax return transcripts can be requested online at IRS.gov, through the U.S. Mail using Form 4506-T or by calling the IRS at 1-800-908-9946. Once you have received or downloaded the tax return transcript, submit a copy to the Financial Aid Office.  If you choose to download your IRS tax return transcript as a PDF, you can upload the PDF file at daemen.edu/finaidupload.  Signed copies of federal tax returns must be either mailed or delivered in person to the Financial Aid Office.  Uploaded and scanned copies of signed tax returns can not be accepted.

Required Forms

You should have received a Verification worksheet in the mail and/or your Daemen email if you were selected for verification. If you have misplaced your worksheet or need a new copy, they are available for download below. Please check with the Financial Aid Office to make sure you are completing the correct form. All verification forms need to be returned to the Financial Aid Office by mail, fax (716-839-8378) or through our Financial Aid Secure Upload at daemen.edu/finaidupload.
