What Are YOU Thankful For?

By Shakeel Alexander
That smoking-hot, stuffing-filled turkey is finally here.
With Thanksgiving just days away, most college students had nothing else on their minds but the vision of a long dinner table filled with different foods, all of which they knew would satisfy their semester-long cravings.
In this somewhat intense fall semester, it’s no doubt that the students here at Daemen are thankful for the little break from the papers and the exams.
But . . .
What else are they thankful for?
Alyssa Hanlon, Physical Therapy, junior: “I am thankful for family and everything that I have, both material and non-material. I am also thankful for love.” (How cute.)
Jayson Rogers, International Business, freshman: “Life.”
Nicole Castek, Painting, senior: “I am thankful for family. They are all I really need in life. I am also thankful for laughter because without it, life would be boring.”
Parris Adair, Undeclared, freshman: “Facial Hair. Never had it before now, so I’m pretty psyched. I am also thankful for family and the hometown that I grew up in because those things made me who I am today. I am thankful that I attend college because getting in didn’t seem realistic until my senior year of high school.”
Ashley Marianacci, Art Education, senior: “I am thankful for Vera Bradley bags. I am also thankful for where I grew up because it made me a grounded person. I am grateful for what I have. For me, college is a simple thing that I never had to worry about. Unfortunately, there are people out there who don’t have the same opportunities that I have. And I am especially thankful for my boss, Kara McGuire.” (If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that someone really wants a raise.)
Dickon Glenroy, Education, senior: “I am thankful for the patience and understanding I have of people. I like getting to know people so I can understand them clearly, not only in the common sense, but mentally as well. All they need is that patience and understanding from someone. That’s how friendships are built and last.”
Cassandra Sakelos, Political Science, sophomore: “I am thankful for being able to go home to my family for Thanksgiving. I know many people who are staying, not because they want to, but because they have no other choice.” (True story.)
Danny Stachewicz, English, senior: “I am tremendously thankful for everything that made me who I am today — the good, the bad, and the fugly.”
Kino Quashie, Education, junior: “I am thankful for everyone that has motivated me these past years to pursue the passion that I have for teaching. Children are a blessing, and being able to challenge and instill their young minds is something that to me is remarkable and gives an uplifting feeling within.”
It’s good that we can come together as a family to enjoy each other’s company as well as bountiful food. We should always keep in mind that in this life, there is always something to be thankful for.
