Daemen Receives College of Distinction and Program Honors

Jul 11, 2019

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College has been selected for the 12th consecutive year as a national College of Distinction in recognition of the institution’s excellence in undergraduate higher education.

This is also the third year the college has earned special program recognition in business, education, and nursing for Daemen’s blending of the liberal arts education, program-specific training, and opportunities for real-world application.

“We are delighted that Daemen has again earned distinction as one of the best colleges in the nation,” said Daemen President Gary Olson. “This national designation reflects our strong commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience to students both inside and outside the classroom that fosters success during their undergraduate years and beyond.”

As a College of Distinction, Daemen has distinguished itself in four areas considered key to an effective undergraduate education, including student engagement, great teaching, creating a vibrant campus community, and successful outcomes. Selection is based on an institution’s first-year experience and retention efforts, as well as its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more.

“Students thrive best when they embrace hands-on learning in a vibrant, welcoming community,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Daemen takes an innovative approach with its curriculum and its high-impact educational practices ensure that the undergraduate experience is unique.”

Daemen’s program-specific distinctions represent the college’s high-quality curriculum that promotes critical thinking and is based on qualities such as accreditation, breadth of program, and a track record of success.

According to Colleges of Distinction, “The past 20 years has seen the job market change exponentially, making it even more necessary for graduates to enter the workforce with adaptability and sharp critical-thinking skills. These qualities are best developed through the various hands-on experiences offered at Daemen that make the college’s graduates better prepared and trained for their professions.”
